for Theatre Forms
The Wortwiege Festival presents a spectrum of content-rich and unconventional forms of theatre in the historic Kasematten of Wiener Neustadt.
Under the artistic direction of Anna Luca Krassnigg, it combines captivating storytelling from ancient themes to contemporary drama on stage with philosophical and scientific thinking in a contemporary Salon setting. Theatre, literature, film, architecture, music and design merge in the impressive atmosphere of the historic fortified building.
The SEA CHANGE initiative promotes international in-house productions, co-productions and guest performances as well as global partnerships.
Words and language are our central spark, stories of all kinds and origins are our passion. Our inter-creative ideas, performative projects and theatre forms are born out of language. We build bridges between literary works, theatre and scientific debate.
The constantly redefined and explored connections of the sibling arts — theatre, film, literature, architecture, music, and design — create distinctive forms of theatre: Innovation that goes beyond mere buzzwords.
The Wortwiege Festival is in constant scientific exchange and is supported by the Science Section of the Province of Lower Austria.
The contemporary update of the“salons” of the turn of the century invites personalities from the worlds of culture, science and politics to informal discussions as part of the festival.
Since 2020, the Wortwiege Festival has been transforming the impressive underground vaults of the historic Kasematten into a very special kind of theater stage.
The Kasematten are close, they are easily accessible, they are beautiful – and full of life!
From newly interpreted classics to contemporary author’s theatre and international guest performances – the majority of productions are created in-house.
Under the artistic direction of Anna Luca Krassnigg, the Wortwiege Festival is specifically committed to empowering women and young talent in the world of art and culture.
Wortwiege maintains an international network and realizes cross-border, interdisciplinary projects, e.g. through the Sea Change Initiative supported by the Austrian Foreign Ministry. Also, Anna Luca Krassnigg is a member of the Board of the International Association of Theatre Leaders (IATL).
